In the spirit of African hospitality, we greet you warmly and are grateful for your interest in the Fr. Jim Karaffa Business Academy for Women (JKBAW).
JKBAW is an independent enterprise created to encourage the holistic development, economic empowerment, and spiritual maturity of the women who reside in Kibera, a slum adjacent to the city of Nairobi, Kenya. Kibera is the second largest slum in the world and the largest in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Unique to JKBAW is the commitment to view each woman holistically as she faces the daily challenges of life among the poorest of the poor. Our programs are grounded in firm academic principles, the positive values of traditional and modern African culture, and the relevant, hope providing foundation of the Judeo-Christian faith. A leader in the holistic development of women, JKBAW seeks to empower each student economically, socially, and psychologically. Our eclectic model of education maximizes educational achievement while honoring the individual goals and aspirations of each student. We value the human person and want to place emphasis on the African woman in poverty.
